Navigating the Complexities of the US Health Care System as a Family Physician and as a Woman Business Leader
Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 6 pm for wine and cheese.
The speaker will follow at 6:30 pm.
Dr. Kate Atkinson is a local Family Physician who started Atkinson Family Practice, a Medical Home in Amherst and Northampton where they care for patients of all ages.
Dr. Kate received her medical degree at University of Massachusetts Medical School in 1996, and completed her Family Medicine Residency at University of Massachusetts in Worcester. She began her career as a Registered Nurse in California, having received her BSN from California State University in Los Angeles. Her work in Oncology and Hospice spurred her interest to transition to becoming a physician. Dr. Kate is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and is Board-Certified by the American Board of Family Physicians.
In over 20 years of practice, Dr. Kate has become increasingly frustrated with the US health insurance system. She has been actively working to improve the experience directly for her patients, but also lobbying at the state and National level for health care reform.
Dr. Kate hopes to discuss the following: the complexities of navigating the US health insurance system to try to provide the best possible medical care to individuals in a community, her decision to offer a Concierge Medical practice option, the experience of being a woman business leader in a small town, and her hopes for a global change in our health care delivery system. She hopes to engender a lively discussion on these topics
